Majja Run to be a timed event to encourage amateur runners

16th March 2019, Bengaluru:Recognised as the largest mass participation event in South India, the Garden City is set to welcome the twelfth edition of the world’s premier Tata Consultancy Services World 10K. The IAAF Gold Label Race will be flagged off from the Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday, 19th May 2019 and will keep with its consistency of attracting the best elite runners as well as enthusiastic amateurs from across the globe.
Beyond being a globally acclaimed sporting event that puts Bengaluru on an international racing calendar, the TCS World 10K today is also recognized for the phenomenal impact it creates in terms of social change through the Cubbon Park Rejuvenation Program, Madiwalla Urban Forest and being the largest sporting charity platform in South India. This is what makes Bengalurens proud hosts of a race that is a celebration of sport and spirit of the city.
Registrations which open on Sunday 17th March, will close on 26th April or earlier, depending on availability of running spots, with a priority line-up for the Open 10K participants and dedicated spots for first-time Women runners.
The USD 2,13,000 race is headlined by the Elite World 10K for Men and Women; amateurs competing in the Open 10K, running enthusiasts in the 5Km Majja Run, the 4Km Senior Citizens Run for participants above the age of 60 and the Champions with Disability.
The Majja Run which through the years has always attracted the highest number of amateur runners, will be introduced in a new avataar this year. The 5KM Run is now a completely timed category and will provide each registered runner with a timing chip in his/her personalised bib as well as a medal of completion on their finish. This initiative by Procam International, keeps with its vision of encouraging a healthier community as well as providing an opportunity for runners from across age categories including as young as 12-years a chance to be part of this mega event.
