Bengaluru, 8th August 2018: To celebrate ‘Road Safety Month’, Bengaluru Traffic Police, in association with Ola, recently inaugurated an Eye Check Up camp for driver-partners and their families. Mr. Anupam Agrawal, IPS, DCP Traffic East, Bengaluru, kickstarted the proceedings with an informative talk on the importance of road safety. The camp is a part of ‘Street Safe’, a national program for road and ride safety, launched by Ola in May this year, to make roads and rides safer. As part of this initiative, Ola has partnered with eye-care leader ‘Vision Express’ to provide free eye-care consultation and prescription glasses at heavily subsidized prices for driver-partners and their families. This initiative comes on the heels of Ola’s commitment to getting comprehensive health check-ups for 1 million driver-partners across India.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Anupam Agrawal, IPS, DCP Traffic East, Bengaluru, said, “Cab & Auto drivers are an integral part of the city’s public transport system and it is imperative to build better awareness about road safety in them. Periodic eye check-ups, are important for every person driving on the road, to ensure our roads are safe and we are glad Ola is facilitating this comprehensive check–up. We are celebrating ‘Road Safety Month’ and are conducting various programs across the city to increase awareness among the people of Bangalore. We are thankful to Ola for hosting this event and for doing their bit in making Bengaluru’s roads safer.”

Street Safe program:
In May 2018, Ola launched ‘Street Safe’ an industry-first, nationwide safety program to strengthen road and ride safety. The program involves partnering with stakeholders across the mobility ecosystem, including local authorities, safety experts, and NGOs to impact safety on a large scale.
Key elements of Street Safe to include:
- Entering into local partnerships to strengthen road and ride safety for commuters across the country
- Creating awareness for three key causes of road fatalities in India; drinking and driving, texting and driving, and over speeding.
- Conducting workshops and training for driver partners across the country. These include organizing gender sensitization workshops for 1 million driver partners in India
- Street Safe integrates all of Ola’s safety efforts including the recently instituted Safety Council and other safety programs under one umbrella and is In line with the Indian Government’s commitment to halve road fatalities in India by 2020 as part of the Brasilia Declaration, Ola has actively committed to making transport in India safer.
