Bangalore: 
The Bengaluru branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, organized a two-day Residential Mentors Training Programme for teacher mentors of BIS Standards Clubs. This event was held at The Rialto Hotel on July 30th and 31st, 2024.
The programme was attended by 25 mentors from various districts of Karnataka, representing schools and colleges. The goal was to equip these mentors with the knowledge and skills needed to implement BIS-related activities within their institutions. This includes standards writing competitions, Quiz and organizing exposure visits to manufacturing and testing organizations.
Suresh Kumar K M, KAS, Joint Director, Department of Technical Education, Karnataka, highlighted the significance of standards in everyday life and discussed their impact on safety and quality of life. He encouraged participants to engage actively and maximize their learning from the experienced faculty. Additionally, he spoke about the Gross Enrollment Ratio in Karnataka, which is 36%, and advocated for Quality Management System certification for all educational institutes.
Manjunatha K, Block Resource Coordinator, BEO, Bangalore North 1, served as the Guest of Honor. He urged attendees to use the BIS Care app to verify product authenticity and to promote the establishment of more Standards Clubs in Karnataka’s educational institutions.
Smt. Vinodini Kishore, Sc D and Joint Director at BIS, conducted technical sessions covering Quality and Standardization concepts, the BIS website and portals, and the BIS Care app.
The program also included discussions on roles and opportunities for teacher mentors, research scholars, and students in the domain of quality and standards. These sessions were conducted by BIS resource support team members . S. D. Selvan, former Director (BIS), and . Mohan Kumar, P. N. The event was coordinated by Smt. Pritha Roy, Standard Promotion Officer, along with the BIS Bengaluru team.
