Bengaluru: March 7
Physical activities provide good health, mental peace and tranquility. If the mind is calm, we can be careful while driving and travelling. This can lead to road safety, said Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
The minister was speaking at the launch of the “Our Road, Our Safety” 5K ‘Safe A Than’ walking, running, cycling and biking awareness campaign organized by the Transport Department in collaboration with the Bengaluru Traffic Police on Saturday at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Transport Commissioner Yogish A.M said, road safety is not just about following the rules, it is a great responsibility to save the precious life of every citizen. The caution and restraint we show while traveling on the road not only saves the future of our family but also the lives of others. Therefore, he called upon everyone to join hands in building an accident-free society by mandatorily following traffic rules.
Speaking at the event, City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Every motorist should realize that not only our lives but also the lives of others are very important. Most accidents are happening due to excessive speeding, whether due to urgency or mourning.”
He said that the police are taking strict action to prevent such accidents in Bengaluru and strict legal action is already being taken against those who violate one-way traffic and wheeling.
Cricketer Sunil Joshi said, “I have noticed that people are using mobile phones while riding bikes and driving cars. This poses a danger to the lives of the driver and others. Do not use mobile phones while driving for any reason. If there is an emergency, stop the vehicle safely and talk.”
13,000 people participated in the Safe A Than. Transport Department Secretary NV Prasad, Commissioner Yogish, Youth and Sports Department Commissioner Chetan, Traffic Division Joint Commissioner of Police Karthik Reddy, Cauvery Hospital Chairman Vijaya Bhaskaran and senior officers of the department were present at the event.
