31 March 2020, Bengaluru: The world today is facing the worst global crisis since World War II in 1939. It is said that adversity brings out the best and worst of humanity. A group of conscious citizens from India Inc. have shown the power of intent and unity with the FeedMyBangalore movement – an initiative of the KVN Foundation created to prevent the children of our country from starving to death during these challenging times.
During these 3 weeks of lockdown, crores of poor people, daily wage earners and underprivileged and homeless children are going to sleep every night without food for themselves and their loved ones, with no idea where their next meal is coming from.
Three conscious Bengalureans from India Inc. – Venkat K Narayana – CEO, Prestige Group, Juggy Marwaha – Executive MD, JLL India and K Ganesh – Co-Founder, Big Basket have come together to address this very need. Driven by the belief that Bangalore has made them the people they are today, giving them and many others their wealth, opportunity and prosperity, they now want to ensure that they reciprocate by protecting the less fortunate of their much-loved city in this time of crisis.
Speaking about this initiative, Mr. Juggy Marwaha – Executive MD, JLL India said, “This is the time to pay back to our society … we can’t have a full meal knowing fully well that millions of daily wage earners are without any earnings, with no idea how to feed their families.”
Adding to this, Mr. Venkat K Narayana – CEO, Prestige Group said, “India is overpopulated with 269 million people still living below the poverty line. Given the density of population, social distancing is a luxury for most. The Government is doing the best they can, but it’s not going to be enough. We as conscious citizens need to do our bit too. As I keep hearing my 2-year old son reiterate at home, ‘Sharing is caring’, and that has to be our motto for this crisis. When we are given in abundance, it is our duty to share. The time to help, to give back, is now! If not now, when else?”
Mr. K Ganesh – Promoter, Big Basket summarised it with, “Unprecedented times like these while creating major new opportunities, also create huge stress for many sectors. The daily wage worker, migrant worker and those without any safety nets, steady income, insurance or savings are the worst affected, without any hope or relief. We are all aware of their suffering, and would want to do our bit to help them in such a crisis. FeedMyBangalore is a platform to achieve this at scale. Collectively, we will come through by ensuring the poorest don’t go hungry till normalcy returns.”
