Chief Health Officer Dr. Sirajuddin Madani urged officials to join hands in building a “Pneumonia-Free Society” in the city.Following the inauguration of the pneumonia awareness programme—held with a series of Information–Education–Communication (IEC) activities at H. Siddiah Road Referral Hospital to mark World Pneumonia Day—Dr. Madani addressed the gathering.
Dr. Sirajuddin Madani stated that pneumonia is an infection that poses a serious threat from children to the elderly. He emphasized that vaccination, hygiene, good nutrition, and timely treatment are highly effective in preventing pneumonia.
Pediatric specialist Dr. Vinutha said that, in line with World Pneumonia Day, raising awareness at the community level and strengthening preventive measures among pregnant women, mothers, and children is a key objective.
Medical Superintendent of H. Siddiah Road Referral Hospital, Dr. Bharathi, mentioned that, with the cooperation of hospital staff, pneumonia detection, treatment, and awareness activities will continue consistently.
During the program, IEC sessions were conducted on pneumonia symptoms, emergency care indicators, pneumococcal vaccination for children, and preventive measures for pregnant women and infants. Finally, the health department and staff expressed their commitment to working together with the community to build a “Pneumonia-Free Society.”
District RHC Officer Dr. Kalavathi, Dr. Bhumika from H. Siddiah Road UPHC, and all staff members of the hospital and UPHC were present on the occasion.
