KLIA, 26 January 2025 – Malaysia Airlines celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year festive period with a special send-off ceremony for two red-eye, fixed-fare flights held at KLIA Terminal 1 which was graced by Yang Berhormat Tuan Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia.
As part of the celebration, YB Loke made a special address to departing passengers on flight MH7414 to Tawau and MH7436 to Sandakan at the boarding gate before distributing special goodies to commemorate the occasion. He was joined by Dato’ Jana Santhiran Muniayan, Secretary General – Ministry of Transport Malaysia; Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG); Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airlines; and Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines (MAG). The flights departed as scheduled at 11:00pm and 11:30pm respectively.
These flights are part of the 102 additional red-eye flights introduced by the airline to facilitate travel demands during the festive period, bringing the total to 219 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sabah and Sarawak. The airline is also offering fixed all-in one-way fares starting RM399 to/from Sabah and RM349 to/from Sarawak available exclusively on Malaysia Airlines’ official website and mobile app, ensuring accessible and convenient travel options.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, commented, “Chinese New Year is a time for togetherness, and we are proud to support our customers with additional capacity and fixed fares to make their journeys more convenient and memorable. This is made possible through the Government’s support in making air travel affordable for Malaysians; ensuring they can reunite with their loved one with ease. We look forward to welcoming over 190,000 domestic passengers travelling onboard Malaysia Airlines during this festive holiday period and serving them with our Malaysian Hospitality.”
Earlier in the day, YB Loke also spent some time visiting the airline’s Flight Management Building to personally extend his thanks to MAG staff involved in operations and managing customers. The visit included a tour of the Operations Control Centre (OCC) and MH Crew Centre (MHCC), where the Minister acknowledged the relentless dedication of MAG employees especially during critical times.
