A delegation led by Dominic Perrottet, Premier of New South Wales State in Australia met Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today. The Australian government has provided $280 million for the India Economic Strategy. The strategy would help to boost economic participation of India, Dominic said after the meeting. The Australian delegation showed keen interest at the Cyber Security Policy and Centre of Excellence in Karnataka. Australia has consistently participated in the Bengaluru Tech Summit and it would do so this year as well, he said.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Bommai said, the global leaders earlier used to start their visit to India with a visit to New Delhi. Now they all arrive directly to Bengaluru visiting Infosys, Wipro and institutions. It has proved that Knowledge is power. Karnataka is in the forefront in R&D, Aerospace, Genetics, Education, Health, Electric Vehicles and other sectors. Karnataka is the ideal destination for investments.
The conditions in rural areas too are improving with good roads, schools, health facilities and digital connectivity. Programmes have been drawn up to further develop them, Bommai said.
When Dominic asked about the challenges before Bengaluru, Bommai said action is being taken to ease the traffic congestion. Work on the Suburban Rail project has been launched and Metro is being expanded.
Australian Consul General in India Sarah Kirlew, Michael Koutts Trotter, Additional Chief Secretary in the department of IT, BT Dr.E V Ramana Reddy and other senior officials were present.
