The Bengaluru City Police reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring citizen safety, and strengthening technology-driven, community-centric policing. In line with this vision, a novel community-policing initiative—Friends of Police (FoP)—has been launched as part of Crime Prevention Month to promote responsible citizenship and enhance public participation in policing activities.
Friends of Police is designed to build a strong and proactive partnership between the Police Department and the public. The initiative encourages citizens to actively participate in preventing and reporting illegal activities, including drug abuse, trafficking, cybercrimes, crimes against women and children, and neighbourhood safety concerns. By bringing citizens closer to police functioning, FoP aims to create an empowered, informed, and vigilant community capable of contributing meaningfully to public safety.
As part of the outreach efforts, Bengaluru City Police officers visited schools and colleges across the city today, interacting with students and creating awareness on various safety issues. Officers addressed students on:
- Strengthened measures for Women’s Safety
- Anti-Narcotics operations and drug-abuse prevention
- Traffic safety, lane discipline, and responsible commuting
- Cybercrime prevention, online frauds, and immediate reporting mechanisms
- Importance of community vigilance and timely information sharing
Across the city, 1150 officers visited 1250 schools and colleges, engaging with 2,11,000 students who actively participated in the Friends of Police Awareness Campaign.
During the sessions, students were educated on the functioning of essential Emergency and Helpline numbers, including:
- 112 – Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)
- 1930 – Cyber Fraud Helpline
- 1933 – Manas National Narcotics Helpline
- 1908 – Drug Abuse Reporting
- 14490 – Women’s Helpline
- 1098 – Child Helpline

The website provides safety resources, awareness videos, Bengaluru City Police initiatives, a pledge-taking system, feedback portal, and download links to police-supported mobile apps such as KSP App, Drug Free Karnataka, and BTP ASTraM. Students were encouraged to explore the dashboard, take the FoP pledge, download safety-related apps, and submit suggestions to the police through the integrated feedback system.
At the conclusion of the session, students were strongly encouraged to take the Friends of Police Pledge, both during the physical sessions and through the dedicated online platform. The pledge emphasizes becoming responsible citizens, staying vigilant, reporting illegal activities, rejecting drugs, respecting women and contributing to the overall safety and harmony of Bengaluru. By taking this pledge, students commit themselves to playing an active role in building a safer city and supporting the Bengaluru City Police in its community-centric policing efforts.
