Riders and drivers can share live location with police with a swipe on the Uber app

Bengaluru City Police (BCP) on Monday said that it has, in collaboration with cab aggregator platforms Uber and Ola, implemented a technology-driven integration aimed at enhancing the safety of riders and drivers.
Uber today announced a technology integration with the Bangalore City Police (BCP) to enhance safety on rides for riders and drivers by strengthening emergency response in the city.
Through this integration, riders and drivers seeking emergency assistance will be able to share their real-time location data, trip details, and contact information with the police directly from the Uber app. The feature enables faster access to critical information, supporting quicker and potentially life-saving intervention by first responders.
Seemant Kumar Singh (IPS), Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru city, said: “Technology plays a critical role in improving emergency response. This integration with Uber allows us to receive real-time location and user details directly, which can significantly reduce response time and help us assist citizens more effectively during emergencies.”
Uber has previously implemented similar safety integrations with law enforcement authorities in Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai, and continues to expand these partnerships to strengthen user safety across India.

How it works
- Rider or driver to access the safety toolkit by tapping the blue shield icon during a trip
- On reaching the ‘112’ assistance, the user will be prompted with the location and user contact details and will be notified that these details will be shared automatically when they swipe to call 112
- After the user’s ‘swipe to call’, by default, trip and other contact information will be shared with the police in all cases.
- If the user doesn’t want to share their location with the police, they will have an option to turn off the share feature. In this case, the SOS signal will not be shared with the control room but the user can still reach out to -112 through their phone.
- Below information will be shared with the police control room:
- Live Location – auto-updated every 4 seconds
- Name of the user
- Contact number of the user
- Driver and Vehicle details
- Email, if available
The Bengaluru integration adds to Uber’s broader suite of safety features, which includes a 24×7 safety line, RideCheck, trip sharing with trusted contacts, and anonymised calling.
Uber will continue to work with law enforcement agencies across the country to expand technology-enabled safety integrations and reinforce its commitment to safer mobility.
