Bengaluru, 5 July 2026:
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) today inaugurated its newly installed state-of-the-art LED Sports Floodlighting System at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, marking a major milestone in the Association’s continued efforts to modernise cricket infrastructure and deliver world-class facilities for players, broadcasters and spectators.
The new lighting system replaces the stadium’s metal-halide floodlights, which had been in operation since 2010, with the latest LED Sports Floodlighting Technology. Designed to meet and exceed current international standards for professional cricket, the system delivers more than 3,500 lux over the pitch and over 2,500 lux across the outfield, ensuring exceptional light uniformity and visibility for players, match officials and television audiences.
The project was inaugurated by Mr. G. Maheshwar Rao, IAS, Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority and Chairman of the Government Expert Committee, and Mr. Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City and Member Secretary of the Government Expert Committee, in the presence of Mr. B. K. Venkatesh Prasad, President, Karnataka State Cricket Association, and Mr. Munish Peshin, Senior Vice President & Business Head – India, Havells India Limited.
The lighting upgrade has been executed by Havells India Limited using its advanced LED Sports Lighting Solution integrated with intelligent DMX Lighting Control Technology. The system is designed to support modern cricket broadcasting requirements, including High Definition (HD), Ultra HD (4K) and super slow-motion coverage, by delivering flicker-free lighting, high vertical illumination and superior colour rendering.
In addition to significantly enhancing broadcast quality and on-field visibility, the LED system is approximately 40% more energy-efficient than the previous lighting infrastructure, reducing electricity consumption and diesel usage while supporting KSCA’s commitment towards sustainable and environmentally responsible operations. The intelligent DMX control technology also enables instant switching and dynamic lighting sequences before, during and after matches, creating an enhanced match-day experience for fans.
Installed at a cost of nearly ₹5 crore, the LED floodlighting project is one of several key infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the current Managing Committee under the leadership of KSCA President Mr. B. K. Venkatesh Prasad, aimed at further strengthening Karnataka’s position as one of India’s leading cricketing destinations.
The inauguration was held ahead of the second match on the opening day of the Bengaluru leg of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20. The tournament will continue under the newly commissioned LED floodlights through to the Final on 12 July 2026, marking the beginning of a new era for cricket at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The installation further enhances the stature of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as one of India’s premier cricket venues, equipped with world-class infrastructure capable of hosting domestic and international cricket to the highest playing and broadcast standards.
