Stuttgart, Germany – The Bosch Group is providing 100 million euros in fresh capital to startups in Germany. Through the Spark fund, the supplier of technology and services – itself an established venture capital investor – aims to significantly expand its involvement in the German startup scene. The goal is to foster technological advancement in the country and generate further growth momentum for Bosch. “Germany’s startup landscape is not only attractive from a technological standpoint, but it also holds great potential for our growth areas,” says Christian Fischer, chairman of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH. “Through financing, collaborations, and partnerships, we want to gain greater access to new business models and disruptive technologies that have the potential to transform entire markets. At the same time, our Spark fund also strengthens the German innovation ecosystem.”
Germany: A startup landscape of rich technological diversity
In Bosch’s view, Germany as a business location now boasts a startup scene that has matured over the years, an innovation landscape with a broad spectrum of technologies, and exceptionally strong industrial and scientific roots. According to Fischer, this innovation ecosystem provides favorable conditions for making more targeted investments in German startups, even in the current challenging environment. Bosch is now one of Europe’s largest corporate investors and its funds have provided a total of more than 1 billion euros in venture capital to date. Most recently, the venture capital subsidiary Bosch Ventures launched its sixth fund in 2025.
Spark: Funding opportunities for startups in Germany
Bosch Ventures is launching its Spark venture capital fund on January 1, 2027. This program is aimed at deep-tech startups in Germany at all stages of development, with particular emphasis on seed and early-stage investments as well as supporting successful portfolio companies in later financing rounds. Investments will be made throughout Germany, but will also target startups in the state of Baden-Württemberg. “The new Spark fund complements Bosch Ventures’ global investment platforms by offering a standalone financing offering for startups in Germany,” explains Dr. Ingo Ramesohl, managing director of Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH (Bosch Ventures).
Invented for life: Investments from automation to medical technology
As a provider of venture capital, Bosch Ventures supports startups around the world whose technologies have the potential to improve people’s quality of life. Accordingly, its investment priorities currently lie in areas such as automation, electrification, artificial intelligence, and medical technology. Since it was created in 2007, Bosch Ventures has invested in well over 100 startups worldwide and currently holds approximately 70 active investments in its portfolio. These already include numerous German startups such as Ferroelectric Memory (memory solutions, Dresden), Qdrant (vector database, Berlin), and 4screen (digital mobility solutions, Munich).
Open Bosch: Partnerships with startups boost innovation efficiency
“When startups and established companies pool their strengths, solutions are developed more quickly, thus increasing the efficiency of innovation,” Ramesohl says. “Our Spark fund is designed to promote this sort of collaboration so that promising technologies from German startups can keep pace with the rest of the world.” In addition to providing venture capital, Bosch Ventures has run the Open Bosch program since 2018. This brings startups together with Bosch’s operating units at an early stage, giving the startups a quick and easy opportunity to become a supplier, customer, or technology partner of Bosch, as well as gain access to its broad industry expertise. Bosch has already established several hundred partnerships with startups through this program, more than one quarter of which are located in Germany. In addition, Bosch is a corporate venture builder, and as such also develops new business ideas beyond its current core business into in-house startups. The aim is to systematically bring these to market readiness and also to develop new, pioneering business models for Bosch.
