FKCCI Tourism Convention Calls for Making Karnataka a Global Tourism Destination
Bengaluru: The Third Edition of the FKCCI Tourism Convention, jointly organised with the World Tourism Capital Department, brought together industry leaders, investors, startups, entrepreneurs, tourism professionals and policymakers to deliberate on the future of tourism in Karnataka.
Addressing the convention, the Chief Guest emphasised that Karnataka’s tourism strategy should go beyond attracting more visitors and focus on creating richer, meaningful and memorable experiences. He highlighted the immense potential of Karnataka in eco-tourism, wellness, adventure, rural and cultural tourism, spiritual tourism, medical and educational tourism, and experiential tourism.
Describing tourism as more than travel, he said that tourism is an economic and social ecosystem that generates employment, supports entrepreneurship and creates opportunities for local communities, artisans, women, youth, guides, hospitality providers and cultural artists.
Referring to Karnataka’s rich heritage, particularly Hampi, he highlighted the importance of balancing tourism with heritage conservation. He noted that the Hampi heritage initiatives of the JSW Foundation demonstrate how tourism and conservation can work together, preserving Karnataka’s cultural identity while creating sustainable tourism opportunities.
He called for greater collaboration between the Government, industry, investors, startups, educational institutions and local communities. He identified five key priorities for Karnataka’s tourism growth: world-class infrastructure and connectivity, protection of the unique identity of destinations, exceptional visitor experiences, inclusive tourism, and effective use of technology and artificial intelligence.
Emphasising the need for an ambitious vision, he said Karnataka has all the ingredients required to emerge as a leading tourism destination, including its heritage, culture, wildlife, nature, spirituality, cuisine and diverse experiences.
Concluding, he urged all stakeholders to work collectively to make Karnataka a destination that people “do not simply visit, but experience, remember and cherish.” He congratulated the award winners and appreciated FKCCI for continuously promoting and strengthening Karnataka’s tourism ecosystem.
