Ms. Chhaya Sharma, a distinguished IPS officer, known for her significant contributions to law enforcement and commitment to justice, became the first recipient of the award.

Ms. Chhaya Sharma, a distinguished IPS officer, known for her significant contributions to law enforcement and commitment to justice, became the first recipient of the award. “I am honoured to receive the Gayatri Devi Goenka Award for Women of Substance. A distinguished team of women leaders from the GD Goenka Group came together in a powerful moment of stewardship and celebration, honoring Ms. Chhaya Sharma. Ms. Sharma is currently serving as the Special Commissioner of Police (Training) and SPUWAC in Delhi Police and has played a phenomenal role in some of India’s most high-profile criminal investigations.
She also led the 2012 Nirbhaya case, ensuring swift arrests and the filing of a charge sheet within a record 18 days. Her relentless pursuit of justice extends to dismantling organised crime networks and advocating for human rights reforms. Beyond her enforcement role, she has trained over 90,000 personnel in India’s new criminal laws, shaping a more accountable and efficient policing framework.
