*Traffic congestion control*
*Private partnership to prevent cybercrime*
*Drug-free Bangalore*
Minister Priyank Kharge, who holds the charge of the state’s Home, Information and Biotechnology and e-Governance departments, today visited the office of the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and held a detailed progress review meeting with senior officers. The meeting discussed law and order, cyber crime, women’s safety and drug control in Bengaluru city.
The main highlights of the meeting are as follows:
• Bangalore Mobility Mission (Traffic Congestion Control): It has been decided to manage traffic congestion, a major problem of Bangalore city, not only by changing infrastructure but also by correcting systemic deficiencies. For this, a ‘Bangalore Urban Mobility Mission’ team will be formed with BMTC, BMRCL and private partnerships. Its complete blueprint will be published in the next 2-3 days.
• Strict action against rowdyism: Strict instructions have already been given to form an ‘Anti-Rowdy Squad’ in every police station. Clear directions have been given that lower-level police officers should not indulge in acts like participating in birthday parties of rowdies, going for dinner or taking selfies with them. Strict disciplinary action will be taken if such lapses are found.
• Private partnership to prevent cybercrimes: As Bengaluru is the 4th largest technology cluster globally, cybercrimes are increasing here. A comprehensive policy will be brought out by bringing together the Home Department, IT-BT and e-Governance departments to curb cybercriminals. A meeting will be held with private technology companies next week and steps will be taken to adopt cutting-edge technology and ‘safety guard rails’.
• Drug-free Bengaluru: The Home Department has declared war on the drug snares. More testing kits will be provided at the borders to detect small quantities of pills and psychotropic substances coming from neighboring states like Kerala, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Discussions will be held with the Union Ministry of External Affairs to expedite the process of illegal stay and deportation of foreign nationals. Global best practices will be studied for this entire control process and a comprehensive Blue Print will be prepared in the next two weeks.
• Crackdown on delay in filing of charge sheets: In the wake of complaints from the public, strict action will be taken against officers who deliberately delay filing of charge sheets after the case is registered or who discriminate in prosecution. All these shortcomings will be rectified in the coming days.
