Bengaluru, Friday, 30th August 2019: B.PAC in association with BBMP, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Lions Club International and Sankey Tank Walkers organised “Mane Manealli Mannina Ganapa”, Clay Ganesha making program. The event was graced by Subhash Adi, Former Upalokayukta, Chairman, National Green Tribunal State Level Monitoring Committee, Kaadu Malleshwara Ward Corporator Manjunath Raju, Aramane Ward Corporator Smt. Sumangala Keshav
Over 1000 participants including students from colleges, civic leaders, residents and others participated in the Clay Ganesha Making program and learnt the art of making clay Ganesha idols. This workshop intends to stop the use of PoP Ganeshas and to encourage the use of Clay Ganesha which are eco friendly. These participants even pledged to stop use of PoP Ganesha idols and instead use clay Ganesha idols.
Mane Manealli Mannina Ganapa, an initiative by B.PAC to encourage the use of eco friendly clay Ganesha idols instead of the Plaster of Paris Ganesha idols. Every year after the Ganesha festival, these PoP idols are immersed in the water bodies and this leads to a lot of debris and environmental hazards to the waters body’s eco system leading to death of the fishes and poisoning of the water. So to avoid these and retain the spirit of the festival we are promoting the use of homemade clay Ganesha idols which can be immersed in our back yard. Also these idols are mixed with seeds so that after some time a plant will grow from this clay. We started this month long campaign on 11th August with an aim of creating 20,000 Clay Ganesha. We’re happy for accomplishing this milestone of creating 18,000 Clay Ganesha across the city with 80 plus civic leaders and 50 volunteers conducting the worhshops .
“I appreciate the student community for coming in large numbers for this wonderful cause. I would also like to thank B.PAC for creating this opportunity for the students. I hope this inspires more citizens to celebrate eco friendly Ganesha Chaturthi” Justice Subhash Adi, Former Upalokayukta, Chairman, NGT State Level Monitoring Committee
“Clay Ganeshas are immersed into to the lake so that the water can easily reaches the underground water. But by using PoP Ganeshas the water does not even reach the ground due to the thickness of the material and the colour will pollute the water body and disturbs the eco system.” Smt.Kaveri Kedarnath, Civic Leader, Organiser Mane Manealli Mannina Ganapa initiative at Malleshwaram Sankey Tank.
