Three Passenger lifts installed at Platform Nos.2/3, 4/5 and 6/7 in SMVT Bengaluru Railway Station were opened to the use of passengers today.
P.C. Mohan, MP Bengaluru, Central, who was present on the occasion suggested the lifts to be inaugurated by Civic Workers.
As per the directions of Hon’ble MP, the House Keeping Staff Ms. Shanthi & Ms. Parvathi, Porters S/Sri Girish, Jagadish, Narasimhaiah, Sadashivam along with other co-workers inaugurated the lifts by cutting ribbon.
The lifts are installed at a cost of Rs.80.62 lakhs. Each lift has a capacity to carry 20 persons.
The lifts were commissioned within three months from the date of commencement of the work.
The installation of these lifts came as a response to the growing demand from commuters of SMVT Bengaluru Station and also as an endeavour towards providing the passengers a world class experience in the Railway Station.
The lifts are strategically placed to connect all platforms, concourse area and entry/exit of the station. This interconnected design ensures that passengers can seamlessly move between different parts of station. This will greatly reduce travel time and congestion.
They are designed as per technical specification of Central Public Works Department (CPWD). Johnson India Pvt. Ltd and South Western Railway have jointly tested and commissioned these lifts. Electrical Inspectorate to Government of Karnataka has inspected and issued Safety certificates for the lifts.
Provision of these lifts in the Station is a significant milestone in improving commuter convenience and accessibility. These lifts will enhance the overall travelling experience of passengers especially senior citizens, Divyangjan and passengers requiring medical care.
