The 9th Edition of the “Save Water Cup 2026” was inaugurated today, 13th May 2026, at the Gopalan Cricket Ground, Avalahalli, Bengaluru, organized by the Gopalan Sports Center.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Sunita Prabhakar and Mr. Nikhil Bhaktavatsal in the presence of players, coaches, parents, and sports enthusiasts.
As a part of the environmental awareness initiative, the tournament was symbolically inaugurated through a tree plantation drive carried out by the chief guests along with the captains of HPCA and BNIOC Cricket Clubs, spreading the message of water conservation and environmental responsibility among young cricketers.
The prestigious cricket tournament is being conducted in three categories:
- Under-12 – 16 Teams
- Under-14 – 16 Teams
- Under-16 – 10 Teams
The tournament will be played in a League-cum-Knockout format from 13th May 2026 to 31st May 2026, providing a competitive platform for young and emerging cricket talent.
The “Save Water Cup” is not only aimed at nurturing budding cricketers by giving them an opportunity to perform on a larger stage, but also serves as an initiative to spread awareness about the importance of water conservation among young athletes and the community.
As part of the awareness initiative, participating teams and players were encouraged to practice responsible water usage during the tournament. The organizers highlighted the importance of conserving water in daily life, especially among the younger generation, by promoting simple practices such as avoiding water wastage, reusing water wherever possible, and understanding the value of every drop of water.
The tournament also carries the message that sports can play a major role in creating social awareness and inspiring young minds towards environmental responsibility and sustainable living.
