Sri Veereshananda Saraswati Swamiji, President of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashram, Tumkur, said that it is necessary to not view the Tarpan ritual, which is an important part of ancestral rites, as just a traditional practice, but to understand and celebrate the traditional, religious and philosophical intentions behind it.
He was present at the ‘Tarpana Vidhi Viveka’ book launch ceremony held at Sri Sringeri Shankara Math in Malleshwaram on Friday 04-10-2-26 and gave his blessings.
Remembering ancestors is a unique tradition of Indian culture. Behind ancestral rituals are values of gratitude, remembrance and strengthening the bond with family heritage. The purpose and methods of such rituals need to be conveyed to the next generation in the right way. He said that the book ‘Tarpana Vidhi Viveka’ is useful in this regard. He said on this occasion that the importance of mothers is very important in public service work that children should do. He said that the program of this day should be an introspection in the matter of remembering ancestors.
Karnataka Sanskrit University Chancellor Dr. S. Ahalya Sharma spoke as the chief guest and said that it is necessary today to record the ideas of the scriptures and tradition in a way that is easy for the general reader to understand. She said that more works should be published that provide clarity on the basis of scriptures to the doubts about rituals like Tarpana. She recalled the Fly Dubai incident on this occasion. She said that everyone should have a grateful memory for their ancestors. And she explained the Charaka Samhita about the birth of man according to Ayurveda.
Retired senior officer of the Education Department, Ve. Br. Sri Venkatarama Shastri presided over the program. Dr. Vinayacharya P., Head of the Vedanta Department of Karnataka Sanskrit University, and astrologer Ve. Br. Sri Tumkur Karanikca Narahari Sharma were present.
The book ‘Tarpana Vidhi Viveka’, published by Anantharama Prakashan, introduces the purpose of the Tarpana Vidhi, the importance of ancestral rites, its religious-philosophical background, and the ritualistic practices.
Author Dr. Ajit Niranjan YA spoke and said that the BOOK has been brought out with the aim of making the ancestral activities easily understandable to the common man. He said that an attempt has been made in the book to provide scriptural answers to the confusion and doubts that people have regarding the Tarpan ritual.
The program was supported by SLN Trust, Rajajinagar, Bangalore. Dignitaries, scholars, spiritual enthusiasts and the general public participated.
