Bengaluru, May 25 (Karnataka News):
In view of the upcoming procurement season and logistical constraints in the country, the Central and State Governments have made significant changes in the distribution of ration for the two months of May and June 2026. For the convenience of the public, steps have been taken to distribute the food grains allocated under NFSA for the two months of May and June 2026 together in the month of May itself. Beneficiaries will have to provide biometrics twice separately for each month’s distribution and receive separate receipts.
The additional 5 kg of food grains for the months of May and June provided under the Annabhagya scheme will be distributed to the Aadhyatha and Antyodaya ration card beneficiaries together in the month of June.
To prevent inconvenience to the public due to the intense heat in the state during the months of April and May, the timings of all fair price shops have been changed. From now on, the public can get their ration from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm. In addition, the timings of the food servers have also been changed.
There is currently no server problem in the state. However, the government has come to the notice of some fair price shops that are using old computers and mobile hotspots, which is causing network problems. A list of such shops is being prepared and instructions will be issued to them to mandatorily get modern equipment and broadband connections within the next two months.
As of the end of May 24, 59.47% of the ration for May and 58.40% for June have already been distributed in the state. This is better than the progress (56.77%) in the same period of the previous April.
All the pending beneficiaries have been requested to collect their rations within the extended time from any of the fair price shops in the state. Strict orders have been issued to the Joint/Deputy Directors of the respective districts and the staff of the Food Department to personally inspect the fair price shops to ensure that there are no loopholes in the distribution of rations, an official release said.
