Dr. Aarti Krishna, Deputy Chairperson, Non-Resident Indian Committee, Government of Karnataka, visited Italy from 29-11-2024 to 4-12-2024 for various programs and met the Indian Ambassador, H.E Vani Rao, Consul General of India in Milan, H.E Lavanya Kumar and Deputy Mayor of Turin, Miss Michela Favaro and discussed the problems faced by the non-resident Kannadigas. There are about 4000 Kannadigas in Italy, most of whom are students, while those who go for employment are nurses, IT professionals and in the fields of architecture. The Deputy Chairperson, attended the World Religion Parliament by the Pope in Vatican City, Italy and participated in the Kannada Rajyotsava program organized by the Italy Kannada Sangha in Turin, the former capital of Italy and also the city where large number of Non-resident Kannadigas reside. The Deputy Chairperson discussed their grievances of the Non resident Kannadigas and sought suggestions. Mainly, the delay in obtaining ‘marriage certificate’ and ‘one and same certificate’ from many government offices in karnataka is a problem and it would be beneficial if an online system is provided along with the timely provision of this facility under ‘Sakala’ program. Aware of the problem and the system already executed in Kerala and few other states, Dr.Arathi Krishna said she will discuss with the Revenue Department to implement it in Karnataka. The Indian Nurses also discussed about the difference in the salary compared to their Italian counterparts and getting a spouse Visa is also difficult. The next day, Dr. Arathi Krishna met the Deputy Mayor of Turin, Ms. Michela Favaro and discussed the said problems later she was connected to Italian department-officials related to the problem and sought appropriate solution for the same.
