Renault unveiled the Trafic-based Hippie Caviar Hotel showcar last year to address the growing yearning for travel and opportunities to contemplate nature in idyllic settings while enjoying the comfort and amenities of a 5-star hotel.
It was to cater to this same longing that All-New Renault Trafic SpaceNomad, the first converted van version available directly from the catalogue, reached the market last July.
Renault has now moved on to act 2 of its product strategy for leisure vehicles with the Hippie Caviar Motel showcar.
This converted van, built around All-new Kangoo L2 E-Tech Electric, is a roving, versatile and sprightly shelter for adventure and sports enthusiasts who are keen on wide open spaces and thrills.
It is designed as a base camp that can hop effortlessly from one spot to the next: Hippie Caviar Motel has a 285 km1 range and it only takes 30 minutes to extend it by 170 km1. Its engine develops 90kW (120hp) powered by a battery pack of 45 kWh able to recharge up to 80 kW DC.
Several smart storage spaces can carry sports kits inside and outside the vehicle.
The roof rack can hold skis and still has plenty of space for a huge panoramic roof to enjoy the stars after folding down the bench into a comfortable bed.
This showcar is also brimming with examples of Renault’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions throughout the vehicle’s life cycle – including the shelves and floor made of recycled tyres and cork, and the all-electric powertrain.
Hippie Caviar Motel will be presented at IAA Transportation in Hanover this 19 September.
