“Karnataka Champions India’s Energy Value Chain Transformation at CII Annual Energy Transition Conference 2025”

CII Karnataka organized the CII Karnataka Annual Energy Transition Conference 2025 “Karnataka@2030: Leading India’s Energy Value Chain Transformation today at Bengaluru. The conference focused on deliberations on accelerating the state’s clean energy leadership through visionary policies, innovative business models, and advanced technologies. It highlighted key areas such as shaping Karnataka’s energy transition vision, scaling renewable generation from utility-scale to rooftop solar, and modernizing the grid with forecasting, electric vehicle integration, and energy storage solutions.

Mr KP Rudrappaiah, Managing Director, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited Government of Karnataka in his keynote address remarked “India is a global leader ranks third worldwide in installed renewable energy capacity, driven by innovation and integration. Karnataka with the Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy 2022-27 stands among the most progressive, underpinning targeted programs such as solar rooftops on schools and government buildings, and advancing Battery Energy Storage Systems to augment transmission capacity. Our bold and inclusive vision encompasses round-the-clock power supply supported by pumped hydro and green hydrogen pilot projects in Mangalore and Bellary, with export potential. Collaborating closely with industry and academia, we are committed to creating scalable, equitable solutions. To meet the immense energy demand, Karnataka is advancing multiple tenders and hybrid energy initiatives. This energy transition for Karnataka is not a chapter, but a comprehensive blueprint shaped by equity, opportunity, and forward-looking policies.”

 “The future is electric, and Karnataka is leading this transformation with significant renewable energy deployment through wind and solar. The national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 underscores the critical role of accelerating renewable energy for electricity, including emerging trends like green heating. Policy support for hydrogen and solar, combined with massive investments such as the $3 trillion commitment to strengthen transmission lines and grid resilience are catalysts for this transition. India’s energy consumption growth demands scaling efforts 3 to 4 times current levels, and here Karnataka’s robust grid, strong OEM presence, and evolving energy ecosystem position it well. Technology, especially AI is being user for predictability management, and is integral to optimizing energy systems. Together, these dynamic developments create immense opportunities for innovation and leadership in the energy transition” highlighted Mr N Venu, Imm.  Mr Rabindra Srikantan, Chairman, CII Karnataka State Council 2025-26 & Managing Director, ASM Technologies said “Robust grid infrastructure and scalable clean energy solutions like microgrids and decentralized renewables are vital for Karnataka’s energy future beyond Bengaluru. To enable the entire state’s participation in this transition, especially in Tier 2 and 3 regions, collaboration across industry, academia, startups, and government is essential. MSMEs, the backbone of Karnataka’s industry, must overcome barriers through cluster-based approaches supported by shared resources and capacity building. At CII Karnataka, we are advancing this agenda under the theme ‘Accelerating Karnataka’s Competitiveness: Globalisation, Inclusivity, Sustainability, Trust’ through CleanTech learning missions, MSME-focused programs like CII INTEGRATE, innovation forums on circularity, and Industry 4.0 adoption drives. Together, these efforts position Karnataka as a lighthouse state for energy transition, ensuring inclusive and scalable sustainable growth.

Mr Sohanjeet Randhawa, Co Convenor CII Karnataka Energy, Transition Panel 2025-26 & Director – Sustainability Affairs and Group Communications Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd highlighted “Karnataka is setting benchmarks in renewable energy deployment, with achievements that serve as a national blueprint. As we look towards 2030, our success will depend not merely on the GW capacity of renewable energy we install, transmit, and use, but on the ecosystem we create where policy, industry, people, and purposes align, and the energy transition is truly inclusive.”

 The whitepaper on “Karnataka@2030: Leading India’s Energy Value Chain Transformation”  was released jointly with CII Green Business Centre during the inaugural session and highlights how Karnataka is leading India’s clean energy movement. The state has already exceeded its 2030 renewable energy goals, modernized its power grid, and pioneered policies in electric vehicles, energy storage, green hydrogen, and climate-smart agriculture. With strong government support, active institutional participation, and a vibrant innovation landscape centred in Bengaluru, Karnataka is creating a people focused, sustainable energy system. Despite ongoing challenges like climate finance and workforce needs, the state stands out as a model for integrating clean energy, economic growth, and social development setting an example for other states in India and globally.

 The conference also featured a showcase of best-in-class case studies across energy, transport, buildings, manufacturing, and water sectors, highlighting how energy prosumers, industry leaders, and innovators are driving renewable integration and advancing the net-zero agenda through clean technologies, smart manufacturing, sustainable mobility, and ESG-aligned solutions.

 Leading industries and institutions including ABB india, Hitachi Energy Ltd, Dexler Energy Pvt Ltd, TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, which was attended by over 100+ industry CXO’s and stakeholders across sectors.
