A very important part of the projects of the Karnataka Folklore Academy, which has been operating since 1980, is to honor folk artists and experts in the field of folklore who have dedicated themselves to folk arts by giving annual awards. In this regard, the Karnataka Folklore Academy has honored 1104 folk artists and 115 scholars from 1980 to 2024, with a total of 1219 honorary awards.
In 2025, 30 senior folk artists from 31 districts of the state will be given annual honorary awards, two folk scholars will be given expert awards, and 02 people in 2024 will be given book prizes.
The annual honorary award given to artists will be Rs. 25,000/-, two field experts will be awarded Rs. 50,000/- each, and the book prize winners will be honored with Rs. 25,000/- each, along with a memento, shawl, garland, and fruit bowl.
As per the decision of the General Assembly held in Bengaluru on September 18, 2025, folk artists and experts have been selected for the 2025 Annual Honorary and Expert Awards.
Siddharaju’s father Madegowda of Bangalore city was given the Neelgarana Pada and Tamburi Pada, Mrs. Bachamma of Haliyur village in rural Bangalore was given the Sobane Pada, Tatvapada, and Sampradaya Pada, B. Siddarajaiah of Honniganahalli village in Virupakshipura hobli of Channapatna taluk in Bangalore South district (Ramanagar) was given the Folk singing, Mrs. Seethamma’s husband Jayaramappa of Bhimaganahalli in Doddakamali post office of KGF taluk in Kolar was given the Tatvapada, K M Narayana Swamy of Jangamkote village in Shidlaghatta taluk in Chikkaballapur was given the Keelu Kudre, Gollarahatti Sasalu Revanna of Tumkur was given the Alagu Kunita, G. Parameshwarappa Kattige father Gundabhaktara Nandigavi Basappa was given the title of Tatvapada, G. N. Virupakshappa of Airahalli Post Office in Chitradurga was given the title of Folk Music, K. S. Lingappa of Kanasavalli in Thirthahalli Taluk of Shivamogga was given the title of Antike Pintike, Mysore T. Mrs. Channajamma Gand Siddayya of Bannur Hobli Yachenahalli, Narasipur Taluk was given Sobane Pada and Folk Singing, Honnayya father Late Bhumigowda of Talalagavadi Kirugavalu Hobli, Mandya Malavalli Taluk was given Kolata, Yogendra Duddu of Duddu village Hassan was given Gigi Pada, Lavani, Tatvapada and Bhajan, Ravi HM father Mahalingappa of Angatharaghatte Post Hoolihalli, Chikkamagaluru Ajjampur Taluk was given Veeragase, Basavaraju of Biligiriranganabetta Yarakanagadde, Chamarajanagar was given Gorukana Nritya, Mrs. Sumati Koraga of Koraga Colony, Kinnigoli Post Mennabettu, Dakshina Kannada was given Koragara Dolu, Mrs. Gulabi Gowthi of Kabbinale village, Karkala Taluk, Udupi was given Natti Doctor, Kodagu Virajpet Taluk Heggala Post Kedamullur Mrs. Ammani was given a midwife and Kudia singing, Belagavi Mudalgi Taluk Kalloli Bheemappa Siddappa Mutnal’s father Siddappa Mutnal was given a Puravantike, Dharwad Jaibhimnagar Prakash Malligawada was given a folk dance, Vijayapura Indi Taluk Indi Taluk Jyotirlinga Hoonakatti was given a folk singing, Bagalkot Aminagad Lakshminagar Ameen Kashimasabha Hussainasabha of Konnur Taluk was awarded the Nadi Mela, Bhagappa Baba Shekappa Somjan of Shivoor village, Afzalpur taluk, Kalaburagi was awarded the Tattvapada, Smt. Indramma of Jojangram, Aurad taluk, Bidar was awarded the Moharam Pada, Yashwant Gowda Baba Amaregowda of Diddagi, Manvi taluk, Raichur was awarded the Tattvapada, Kindri Lakshmipati of Siddapur Mallikarjuna Nagar of Karatagi taluk, Koppal was awarded the Sudugadu Sidda, and Hanamant of Narasingpet Kumbarpet, Shorapur taluk, Yadgiri were selected for the Tattvapada art form.
Similarly, Dr. Chikkanna Yannekatte of the Gadinedu Janapada Kendra in Kalidasa Nagar, Shirad, Tumkur, has been selected for the Dr. Jeesham.P. Expert Award, and Dr. H.T. Pothe, professor and director of the Institute of Kannada Studies, Kalaburagi University, Kalaburagi, has been selected for the Dr. B.S. Gaddigimath Expert Award.
Bangalore Cooperative City Post Office Sanjeevini Nagar Kannada Professor Dr. Veerasabihalli Shivanna has been selected for the 2024 Book Prize under the category of review of the book Kadugollara Sanskthi and Kavyagala and Dr. Imam Saheb Hadagali, Kannada Language Lecturer at Kudlagi Government Pre-University College, has been selected for the 2024 Book Prize under the category of research of the book Kanakagiri Seemeya Place Names.
