The State-level Mango and Jack Mela 2026, is jointly organized by the Department of Horticulture and the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd. (KSMDMCL), is scheduled from May 8 to May 17, 2026. The event, typically held in Bengaluru, showcases various mango and jackfruit varieties directly from farmers.
- Key Focus: The mela aims to provide a direct platform for farmers to sell high-quality, carbide-free mangoes, including popular varieties like Alphonso, Totapuri, and Pairi.
- Significance: It serves to boost local growers’ income, offering organic produce directly to consumers while avoiding middlemen.
- Objectives of the Exhibition:
- To provide consumers with naturally ripened, carbide-free fruits directly from farmers.
- To establish direct linkage between mango and jackfruit growers and consumers, ensuring fair prices to farmers and quality produce to consumers at reasonable rates.
- To demonstrate the benefits of direct marketing to mango growers.
- To offer an opportunity to view and taste superior varieties of mango and jackfruit.
- Approximately Badami, Mallika, Sendura, Rasapuri, Kari Eshad, and Chalti mango varieties and Jack fruit varieties Rudrakshi, Shivarathri, Ekadashi and Toobagere Lalbagh Madhura varieties of will be available for purchase at the fair
- Mango and jackfruit growers from Ramanagara. Mandya, Tumkur and Uttara Kannada will participate.
- A total of 50 stalls for mango growers and 07 stalls for jackfruit growers have been allocated at the fair.
- The GI-tagged Kari Ishad mango from Uttara Kannada district will also be available. Raw mangoes suitable for pickle varieties will be made available for sale.
- Initiatives by the Corporation for the 2026 Mango Season:
- A State-level Mango/Jackfruit Mela is being organized at Cubbon park from 08-05-2026 to 17.05.2026.
- During the current year, 11 tonnes of mangoes have been processed through the Packhouse at the Madikere Mango Development Centre and exported to countries such as the USA, Germany, and the UK through exporters.
- Training programs are being conducted at Madikere and Hogalagere centres on harvesting, grading, packing as per market demand, and ripening of fruits using ethylene.
- Awareness and training have been provided across the supply chain regarding the harmful effects of carbide-ripened fruits, legal penalties under food safety laws. and safe ripening practices using ethylene gas.
- At the Madikere Mango Development Centre in Chintamani Taluk. Chikkaballapur district, demonstration training programs are being conducted for farmer women, self-help groups, and growers on processing mango products such as mango pulp, mango bars, and pickles.
- A Post-Harvest Management Centre (Packhouse) has been operational from the current year at Byrapatna in Channapatna Taluk. Ramanagara district, for the benefit of farmers.
