With the support of NIMHANS, an awareness program on mental health organized by Rotary

“Poor family background, dysfunctional family relationships, loss of parent or family member during the Pandemic, loneliness, physical, sexual or online harassment relationship issues and lack of support at school or college are some of the reasons for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem issues.” Stated by Additional Professor NIMHANS Dr. G.Radhakrishnan at a Mental Wellness program “Manodarpan” organized by Rotary District 3191 with the support of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences NIMHANS and MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation Karnataka, on August 11th at Rotary House of Friendship, Lavelle Road, Bangalore.
Additional Professor NIMHANS Dr. G.Radhakrishnan, and Assistant Professor NIMHANS Dr. G.Balamurugan were the keynote speakers of the session. With an aim to raise awareness in society including school and college teachers about people suffering from anxiety, fear, depression, negative feelings, and other vital mental health issues the program was conducted.
District Director Raghu Allam said that it has been found by Unicef and World Health Organization (WHO) that clinical depression affects children between the age of 12-16 years and by the time they reach 24 years, it becomes severe and can even lead to suicidal deaths. In India, student suicide deaths are over 13000 per annum.
It is pertinent to mention that Rotary has taken it as an objective with the support of NIMHANS to train teachers in 100+ schools and help society. Rotary District Governor Udaya Kumar Bhaskara, Rotary District Director Mental Wellness Raghu Allam, Rotary Downtown President Usha Selvaraj, dignitaries, and guests Journalist Anubha Jain with Rotarians from different clubs participated in the program.
MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation Karnataka (MCKSFFHKa) has also joined hands with Rotary to bring awareness to students regarding mental wellness. MCKSFFHKa is committed to empowering the future of Karnataka by ensuring the wholesome growth of children using the universal laws of energy guided by the principles laid down in Pranic Healing by Master Choa Kok Sui. MCKSFFHKa is now partnering with Rotary and NIMHANS to further its mandate of serving the future of Karnataka.
