Around 200 journalism students from North Karnataka participated – Jadiyappa Gedlagatti

For the first time in Kalaburagi, the capital of Kalyan Karnataka, the government has organized the Media Fest-2025 program for journalism students who will become journalists in the future for two days on February 17th and 18th at Kalaburagi Sharanbasava University, said Jadiyappa Gedlagatti, Deputy Director of the Information and Public Relations Department, Kalaburagi.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Kalaburagi city press house on Tuesday, he said that the Information and Public Relations Department has established the Karnataka Media Academy, The event is being organized in collaboration with Sharanabasava University and Karnataka Working Journalists Association, Kalaburagi, and will feature workshops, talks by expert journalists, and competitions. About 200 students from the university, undergraduate and postgraduate journalism departments and college professors from Kalaburagi and Belgaum divisions will participate in it, he said.
A platform for journalism students to showcase their talents:
T.V. Sivanandan, Head of the Postgraduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Sharanabasava University, said that this two-day media festival is providing a platform for journalism students to showcase their talents. Ten competitions have been designed to bring out the best in future competitive journalists, and these competitions will be held at various locations on the main campus of Sharanabasava University. The students who come to the program have been provided with accommodation and food at the university, and there is no fee for students participating in the competition. Admission will be completely free. He said that the Karnataka Media Academy is handling the registration of students.
The competitions are divided into two categories, individual competitions and group competitions. The individual competitions include live press conference reporting, PTC and TV reporting, spot photography, radio jockeying, wordplay, advertisement writing, social media reporting and the art of writing headlines. The group competitions include quizzes on current affairs, “Our Village” “Language – a blessing? a curse?” he said, adding that the debate competition was included.
Another highlight of the Kalyana Karnataka Madhyamootsava is the two workshops organized to enhance the skills of budding journalists. In the first workshop, senior journalist and actor, director and founder of Alma Media, Gowreesh Akki, will speak on effectively preparing journalism and mass communication students to enter the competitive world of media and face the challenges. In the second workshop, a senior journalist and professor at Manipal Higher Education Academy will speak on how to identify fake news. Prof. Kanchana Kaur will speak at the event. Explaining the format, T.V. Sivanandan said that cultural programs will also be held for two days.
KKRDB President Dr. Ajay Singh will inaugurate the Media Fest on February 17. The event will be held in the divine presence of Sharanabasaveshwara Vidyavardhaka Sangha Chairperson Dr. Dakshayini Avvaji and the 9th Peethadhip of the Sansthan, Pujya Chiranjeevi Doddappa Appaji. The President of Karnataka Madhyamika Academy will also grace the occasion. Ayesha Khanam, Koppal University Vice Chancellor Dr. B. K. Ravi, Sharanabasava University Vice Chancellor Dr. Anilkumar Bidave, Gulbarga University Vice Chancellor Dr. Sriramulu, Karnataka Working Journalists Association State Unit Vice President Bhavani Singh, Kalaburagi Unit President Baburao Yadrami and other dignitaries will participate in this media festival.
On February 18, Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Kalaburagi North constituency MLA Khaneez Fatima, Kalaburagi South constituency MLA Allama Prabhu Patil and other elected representatives will participate. Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority Chairman Mazhar Alam Khan will distribute prizes to the winners, he informed about the programs.
Bhavani Singh, vice president of the state unit of the Karnataka Working Journalists Association, and Baburao Yadrami, district president of the Kalaburagi unit, were present at the press conference.
