Bengaluru, 25 June 2022: Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship . Rajeev Chandrasekhar was in Bengaluru for a day’s visit inaugurating National Conference on Development of Space Startup Ecosystem in India at Bengaluru and Intel’s latest state-of-the-art design & engineering center at EcoSpace Business Park, Devarabeesanhalli, Bengaluru. He addressed the gathering &interacted with scientists, startups and entrepreneurs in the Indian space sector.
The national conference organized by the Aeronautical Society of India in association with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) etc.
Addressing the gathering comprising of space scientists veterans and Startups in the Indian Space sector, the Minster recalled how he invited Neil Armstrong to Mumbai in 1997, to motivate his team of young telecom professionals who wanted to build largest cellular network in India.
Emphasising the importance of risk-taking in space industry, he touched upon how Armstrong always took risks- as a test pilot, as an astronaut, and later a moonwalker who ‘depended on 8-bit computers, 4Mhz processing power to reach moon & return’.
Mentioning about how India under PM Narendra Modi steered out of the Covid pandemic, Rajeev Chandrasekhar remarked “We are celebrating 75 years of India’s independence; we are celebrating 7 years of Digital India. We have just emerged out of the black swan event that disrupted lives and livelihoods across the globe – the Covid pandemic. Countries around the world were unprepared for it. But, if we take the report card and take stock of how countries have dealt with it, even our strong critics will acknowledge our good performance during this Covid pandemic. We have delivered over 2 billion vaccination shots. We emerged as one of the Preeminent nations to use technology for a resilient economy, governance and citizenry. “
Highlighting the opportunities for Startups, entrepreneurs and youth in the Space Sector, the Minister mentioned that “We are living in some seriously unprecedented &exciting times. Initiatives like INSpace and the efforts to catalyze the startup ecosystem in the sector is happening exactly at the right time. The Minister also launched the IN-SPACe VANSAT India Competition for students, during the conference.
Later in the day Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated Intel’s latest state-of-the-art design & engineering center at EcoSpace Business Park, Devarabeesanhalli, Bengaluru. The centre with capacity for accommodating over 2000 engineers is one of the largest in the world.
The Minister, who worked as a senior design engineer & a cpu architect on the iconic 80486 & pentium microprocessors, acknowledged intel’s 3 decade long partnership with India.
