Mr. Ashish Varma, I.R.S has taken over as Principal Chief Commissioner of Central GST and Central Excise of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Zone with effect from 1st January 2024. A 1989-Batch Officer of the Indian Revenue Service, Mr. Varma brings to his new assignment a tax acumen honed by years of experience in various Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax related formations across the country.
He has served at Valsad, Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai, Lucknow, Aurangabad and Pune. He has played a significant role at the Central Bureau of Narcotics at Lucknow. As Principal Additional Director General, he has headed the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics at Mumbai. As Chief Commissioner, he has led the Meerut GST and Central Excise Zone. He has also had distinguished tenures with the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence at Lucknow and at Ahmedabad and as Chief Commissioner at the Directorate General of GST Intelligence at Gurugram prior to his present posting at Chennai. Mr. Varma is a Presidential award winner for specially distinguished record of service.
