Bengaluru: Narayana Nethralaya is the first eye hospital in Bengaluru to receive accreditation of ISO 15189:2012 by Quality & Accreditation Institute for Narayana Nethralaya Diagnostic Laboratory and the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (Narayana Nethralaya Institute of Molecular Diagnostics & Laboratory Services).
ISO 15189:2012 specifies requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories. It is designed to outline the “requirements for competence and quality that are particular to medical laboratories”. Laboratory competence and quality are critical in patient diagnosis and care to ensure they meet the need of the clinicians & patients.
The entire process accreditation was completed in a record time of less than 2 months of applying for the certification.
Expressing delight at receiving the accreditation, Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director, Narayana Nethralaya, said, “Narayana Nethralaya’s Molecular Diagnostic labs have the state of art facilities for testing with highly trained and skilled expert staff members. It is one of the few labs that are handling the H1N1 testing and is approved by both central and state government. Getting the ISO accreditation is a recognition for our assured quality healthcare. We will continue to maintain and deliver high standards of healthcare.”
KVR Tagore, IPS, former Director General of Police, Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Rana, CEO, Quality & Accreditation Institute (QAI) and the LEAD Man of India Dr. Venkatesh Thuppil, CEO, Foundation for Quality India (FQI) presented the certificate to Dr. K Bhujang Shetty.
