Bengaluru, June 27, 2018: As many as 914 skilled shuttlers from across the city impressed the audience with their performance on the final day of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship. The Bengaluru leg of Season 4 of the tournament concluded today at Karnataka Badminton Association, bringing out top 16 shuttlers from the city.
In the Boys Singles U-15 category, Pranay Katta from PPBA defeated Ayush Shetty from (I-Sports) with score 15-9, 7-15, 15-4. In Girls Singles U-15 category, Karnika Sree from Selenite Badminton Academy defeated Ashita Singh from Delhi Public School with score 15-6, 15-12.
Gracing the closing ceremony, Mr. Chakrapani, President of Karnataka Badminton Association and Chief Guest on the occasion said, “I would like to commend PNB MetLife for nurturing such a platform that acts as a breeding ground for the gen-next badminton players. This tournament has proven to be a crucial link between young players and the recognition and exposure they deserve. The overwhelming response the city witnessed will further bolster badminton’s popularity in India. I also want to congratulate all the winners today who would be going on to compete in the tough finale in Delhi. “
PNB MetLife has partnered with the CRY Foundation as CSR Partner for this initiative. The objective is to use sports as an effective medium of empowerment for children and helping them undergo a transformational change. The competition helps in nurturing the right talent at an amateur level, thereby fostering their growth and ability to perform on a global scale.
The next leg of this year’s championship is scheduled from 30th June in Kochi and Lucknow.
