Rolls-Royce awards nuclear internship to students of Budapest Technical University

23 April 2018 Rolls-Royce has awarded a three-month internship to two students of the Budapest University of Technology. The Hungarian students will gain significant experience working across varied projects at the company’s Centre of Excellence for Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) in Grenoble, France.

The Rolls-Royce I&C internship programme is designed to provide high-achieving students with valuable international industry experience. This year’s focus is on in-depth analysis of the I&C licensing process and requirements for Hungary’s nuclear power plants.

Eric Blanc, President I&C, Civil Nuclear, Rolls-Royce said: “Over the last few years, we have been growing our presence in Hungary and working closely with local partners to offer our I&C solutions to the two new reactor units under construction at the Paks nuclear power plant (Paks-2). During this time, we have gained a clear understanding of the importance placed upon the education of Hungarian students, and opportunities to further develop and grow applied knowledge in nuclear engineering.

“I am confident that the successful students will be able to fully leverage the future career opportunities that this internship will bring. They will each gain valuable hands-on experience, working as part of a multi-cultural, highly skilled and multi-disciplinary team in Rolls-Royce; and benefit from daily technical guidance and a regular mentoring programme.”

Associate Professor Szabolcs Czifrus, head of the Institute of Nuclear Techniques, said: “The successful recipients have demonstrated a clear motivation to work on the proposed subject, and the required competencies to operate within a complex international business environment. They have each gained a bachelor’s degree in energetics engineering after writing an excellent thesis and publishing several research papers. This internship programme is extremely beneficial, both for the students and the University. We encourage our students to learn at as many places as possible where they can add invaluable practical skills to their extensive theoretical knowledge.”

The 2018 Rolls-Royce I&C internships have been awarded to Ábel Cseh and Gergely Boguszlavszkij. Ábel Cseh is studying a Master’s degree in nuclear engineering; his research topic is software development for core calculations for Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors. Gergely Boguszlavszkij is studying a Master’s degree in physics and his research topic is improving nuclear techniques specification.
