Bengaluru, 30 April, 2018: The opening day at the Roland-Garros Amateur Series by Longines played at Bowring Institute here in Bengaluru saw local lad and top seed Arjun Honappa advance to the second round of Boys’ Singles after he got the better of R Kudva from Andhra Pradesh with a comfortable 9-1 win in the best of 17 set. The National Level Amateur Series which began today will see a 64 Boys’ and 48 Girls’ in the Singles Category and they will slug it out under summer sun. The winners from both categories will be sent on an all-paid trip to Paris to witness an entire day’s proceedings at the much-awaited Roland-Garros 2018 to begin on May 27.
A confident Honappa who was at ease playing in front of his home crowd will next take on Rajasthan’s Fardeen Qumar in the Second Round on Tuesday. In another Boys’ Singles match, Arjun Sriram also of Karnataka fought his way to the second round with a 9-5 win against Haryana’s A Malik who was seeded fifth. S Devineni too moved ahead with a strong 9-1 win against A Gupta of Uttar Pradesh.
In the Girls’ Singles, top seed B Parwani of Gujarat advanced to the next round after she got a bye from V Ranabothu. Karnataka’s Aditi Narayan, on the other hand, beat Sukhmani Singh 9-2 to advance. In another match, local girl Reshma Maruri beat Adithi Are 9-8(6) to advance.
