BJP Karnataka professionals held a panel discussion today on”One Nation One Election”at Sri Krishna devaraya Kalamandira, Malleshwaram, in Bangalore
The panel consisted of MP TejasviSurya, Former Advocate General of Karnataka Ashok Haranahalli and Editorial Director of Swarajya Magazine Mr.R Jagannathan. The convenor of the professionals cell,Mr. Channamallikarjun moderated the discussion and co-convenor Mr. Ravi Pai made the opening remarks
Mr.Ashok Haranahalli, while speaking of the constitutional amendments required for the implementation of One Nation One Election remarked on how the system could facilitate integration of elections at National, State, Corporation and Panchayat level.But these changes would require are think on anti-defection law,no confidence motion and other electoral policies.
R Jagannathan elucidated on how the ONOE will impact the citizens.It will not increase voter turn out but also facilitate better governance since parties will be forced to link national,state and city level manifestos.With improvements in digital infrastructure it will also become possible to have One Nation One Voter list and even digital voting.“If lakhs to rupees can be transferred via phone and digital payments,I am certain that adequate IT security features can be built to make digital voting possible”, he said.
Tejasvi Surya highlighted the political benefits of ONOE.“The first casualty of ONOE will be dynasty politics.It will not only disrupt the corruption in the electoral process,but it will also make it possible for a simple karyakarta like myself to contest elections.This is the very reason for the strong objection by the opposition parties. It is a question of their survival”, he said.
The panel and audience were in agreement of the much required reform of One Nation One Election and were in praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for championing this electoral reform which will deepen democracy and ensure better governance.The event was attended by more than 200 professionals, students and citizens.
