“The goal of Developed India-2047 will be realized only when the youth, along with gaining proficiency in Artificial Intelligence (AI), also embrace human values, ethics and social responsibility,” said Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka.Addressing the first batch of students at the University of Liverpool Bangalore Founder Batch Orientation Programme organised at Whitefield, Bengaluru, he said, “This programme marks the beginning of a new chapter in the collaboration between India and the United Kingdom in the fields of education, research, innovation and knowledge.
“Established in 1881, the University of Liverpool has a legacy of academic excellence spanning over a century and a half, and has earned its own global reputation through its membership of the prestigious Russell Group. The establishment of the university’s campus in Bengaluru will further strengthen India-UK academic collaboration,” he said.
“Bangalore is the Silicon Valley of India, with a global presence in many emerging sectors including IT, biotechnology, aerospace, fintech and artificial intelligence. The establishment of a Liverpool University campus in such a city will give a new impetus to knowledge, research and innovation,” he opined.
“The first batch of any institution holds a special place in its history. Your role is of utmost importance in shaping the culture, values and future growth of the university. Education should not only be career-oriented but should also be a tool for personality development and nation building,” the Governor said.
Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s message of self-confidence, good character and national service, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s thoughts on social transformation through education, he advised the students to understand the problems of society and use their knowledge for the progress of the nation.
Bengaluru is home to world-class technology institutions, startups, and research centers, and he called on students to step out of the labs and into society, devise innovative solutions to problems, and become creators of entrepreneurial opportunities rather than job seekers.
He expressed confidence that this university will emerge as a global center of excellence in the fields of knowledge, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and human values, making a significant contribution to nation building and further elevating Bengaluru’s identity as a global knowledge hub.
