SPARSH Hospitals Launches ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’ Campaign to Rethink Bengaluru’s Everyday Honking Habit

World Heart Day 2026 campaign urges Bengaluru motorists to reduce unnecessary honking and make everyday commutes calmer

Bengaluru, September 21, 2026: Bengaluru’s traffic may be slow, but the honking rarely stops. From traffic signals and bumper-to-bumper roads to moments when there is simply nowhere for vehicles to move, unnecessary honking has become part of the city’s daily commute. This World Heart Day, SPARSH Hospitals has launched ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, a Bengaluru-focused campaign encouraging motorists to rethink habitual honking and its impact on everyday traffic stress and wellbeing.

The campaign is built around a simple thought: “Can honking move the traffic? If not, what is all this noise doing to us?” While the horn remains an important safety tool, ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’ aims to discourage unnecessary honking driven by frustration, impatience or habit.

The campaign was unveiled at a media briefing in Bengaluru, bringing together SPARSH Hospitals’ leadership and cardiovascular specialists to discuss the relationship between everyday traffic stress, noise and heart health.

“With ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, we want to turn a familiar Bengaluru experience into a simple moment of awareness. The campaign is not about stopping necessary honking, but about encouraging people to pause and ask whether every honk is really needed. Small changes in everyday behaviour can contribute to a calmer and healthier environment,” said Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Founder, Chairman and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, SPARSH Group of Hospitals.

From a medical perspective, loud and unexpected noise can trigger the body’s stress response, while repeated exposure to stressful environments can contribute to physiological stress over time. Chronic stress is one of several factors that can influence cardiovascular health.

“An occasional honk is not the concern. It is repeated exposure to unnecessary and stressful noise that can add to the body’s stress response. When these stressors are experienced repeatedly, they can contribute to chronic stress, which is one of several factors that influence cardiovascular health,” said Dr. (Prof) Ranjan Shetty, Lead Consultant, Cardiologist and Group Medical Director, SPARSH Hospitals.

As part of the campaign, SPARSH Hospitals will take ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’ to Bengaluru’s roads and communities through public sign-ups, hospital and community engagement, radio and social media interventions, street vox pops, interactive traffic polls and doctor-led conversations. The campaign will also feature influencer-led content under ‘Honk Not Okay Please’.

The initiative is not aimed at eliminating honking from Bengaluru’s roads. Instead, SPARSH Hospitals hopes to make unnecessary and habitual honking less normalised, while reinforcing that the horn should be used whenever safety requires it.

Through ‘Horn Don’t Maadi’, SPARSH Hospitals aims to turn a familiar Bengaluru frustration into a public conversation around mindful commuting, everyday stress and heart health.

Use the horn when safety requires it, not as a default response to traffic.
