Bengaluru, Dec 16: Akshay Neranjen and Hridika Vora soared to the top of the leaderboard in the Men’s and Women’s Amateur categories respectively at the end of the first round of the RBG South Zone Tour Championship 2020 at the Eagleton Golf Resort here on Wednesday. Both Akshay and Hridika signed an identical card of 2-under par 70.
Dhruv Bopanna brought in the day’s second best card of 1-under 71 to lead in the Teen ‘A’ boys category while Shaurya Binu scored level par 72 to be in the second place.
Akshay made five birdies in all including four on his back nine. After an ominous start where he made a bogey on the opening hole which he rectified with a birdie on the fourth hole, he took the turn without any further damage. He suffered two successive bogeys on the 11th and 12th but came back blazing firing four birdies on 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th to finish the round at 2-under.
Meanwhile Hridika’s lone blemish was on the seventh hole where she made a bogey while keeping her game in check. She made the biggest flourish when she made three birdies in the last four holes to match the day’s best card.
