“Our government is considering building three Lalbagh-style gardens in Bengaluru,” stated Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Speaking to the media after launching the 220th Lalbagh Flower Show—organized under the theme ‘Glory of the Ganga Dynasty’ as part of Independence Day celebrations on Thursday—Shivakumar shared details about the initiative.
“We intend to build one such park on Defence land in Bengaluru. The land will remain under the ownership of the Defence Ministry, but we need permission to build the parks there. I have written a letter in this regard and will meet the Union Defence Minister soon. The Prime Minister has previously given permission to build a park on Defence land in Varanasi. Additionally, we have decided to set up two similar parks on forest land within Bengaluru city, and I have held discussions with forest department officials. We plan to assign this responsibility to agencies like the Greater Bengaluru Authority, BDA, and the Horticulture Department. During our tenure, we are committed to protecting the city’s greenery and improving public life,” he said.

“Lalbagh is not just a park; it is history. This flower show has been designed around the history of farmers and agriculturalists during the Ganga dynasty. The lakes built by the Gangas during that era still survive today and have protected us in tough times. The history of the Gangas represents equality, farmers’ lives, and struggle. This is a celebration of our culture, farming life, and art. On this year’s Independence Day celebrations, I request everyone—youth, women, and elders—to come and experience this flower show. I am happy to inaugurate this event, which will run for 10 days. Lalbagh was established by Hyder Ali, developed by the British, and is now being maintained by the Karnataka government,” he added.
“This year, a grand display replicating the Ganga dynasty has been created. The grandeur of South India’s Ganga dynasty has been depicted using flowers, bringing their struggle and culture to life. The history of the Gangas is an integral part of Karnataka’s history, and the Horticulture Department has executed this theme exceptionally well,” he stated.

“We have designed an initiative to increase greenery in the state and support the livelihood of farmers. It will be a collaborative effort of farmers and the government, which we will formally announce on August 15. A 100-day government program has been planned, focusing on empowering farmers,” he said.

When asked if the recent visits to senior Congress leaders’ residences meant internal issues were resolved, he replied, “There are no issues within our party; the issues exist only in the media. We must respect the sentiments of our senior leaders. We have 140 MLAs and 40 MLCs, but we can only assign ministerial posts to 33 of them. Everyone in our party is capable, and we cannot fault their aspirations. We all need to work together. Everyone is loyal to the Congress party and contributed to bringing the party to power.”
