Bengaluru, June 13th 2019: In a recent FB Live conversation with Sandalwood Actress Priyanka Upendra, Bhanumathi Narasimhan, the Director of Women Empowerment & Child Care Programs for The Art of Living Foundation, re-told stories from Indian mythology revealing its deeper meanings though her latest book titled ‘Parashakti: Magical Stories of the Divine Mother’.
Priyanka Upendra commenced the conversation talking about sensitivity and the energy needed to play multiple roles in our daily lives. Explaining the leela of life and the conscious path taken by a individual, which includes dhyana (meditation) and Yoga, the conversation witnessed Bhanumathi emerge in an interesting and enlightening dialogue with Priyanka Upendra.
Speaking on the significance of the ferocious form of Devi in our lives, Priyanka Upendra spoke on the effect that the Goddess had on her life since her childhood, which was spent in Kolkata. Priyanka also said that Maa Kali is her favorite Goddess and she has been brought up visiting Kali Ghat in Kolkata and worshiping Maa Kali.
In response, Bhanumathi articulated the importance of symbolism behind the urgarupa (ferocious face) of the Devi. Knowing the meaning will help people witness the beauty in everything and strengthen the love for Kaali/Devi making one stronger. “If you can feel beauty and the protection of a mother in the presence of Kali then nothing can bring fear in you,” she said. She also spoke of the wisdom behind wearing a garland of skulls, the lolling tongue etc as well which were ‘wow’ moments for the audience.
Bhanumathi and Priyanka further spoke about the meaning of rituals, the role of spirituality, the different qualities that each of the magical and divine powers possess and how keeping a concentrated focus on each of these qualities helps an individual towards accomplishing their goals in life.
One of the interesting factors reflected in the book ‘Parashakti’ is “being yourself”. Bhanumati beautifully crafts her messages and communicates how each little thing starts affecting us in such a way that we forget to be ourselves. “Spirituality is coming back to your nature, returning to the source,” says Bhanumathi, “and the Guru is our guide on this Pathless path.”
Parashakti, as the name describes, is the beauty of ‘Devi’ – the supreme strength which can only be felt and revered by experiencing her presence instead of thinking of the divine as a physical being.
