Committee to revise police department cadre and recruitment rules
Steps taken to strengthen police system as per future needs: Minister Priyank Kharge

Minister for Home, Information Technology and Biotechnology and e-Governance Priyank Kharge said that an expert committee has been formed to comprehensively review the department’s cadre structure, classification of posts, number of posts and recruitment rules in accordance with the current workload of the police department, changing duties and future needs and to provide necessary recommendations.
The nature of the duties of the police department is constantly changing, and there is a need to effectively utilize human resources in line with new challenges and increasing responsibilities. In this context, the Minister said that this committee has been formed with the aim of comprehensively reviewing the current cadre structure and sanctioned strength of posts, and formulating a human resource plan of the department as per the future needs.
Recruitment process more efficient
The committee will examine the necessary measures for the professional development of police personnel, including redefining the recruitment process and eligibility criteria, strengthening the training and capacity building system. The committee will also study the strengthening of KPA, Mysore and other training units. In addition to examining the promotion opportunities, career progression and mobility of posts at various levels, the committee will also examine the need for creation of new posts and reclassification of existing posts, Minister Priyank Kharge informed.
Emphasis on reservation and human resource planning
The committee is also responsible for reviewing the design of posts in the police department with regard to reservation, formulating a recruitment plan in line with the human resource requirements for the coming years and examining the appropriate ratio between direct recruitment and promotion posts. In addition, the committee has been asked to review the posts created for vehicle drivers and minor category employees under the police department, the minister said.
Committee headed by retired police officer Kamal Pant
The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of retired Director General of Police Kamal Pant. Additional Director General of Police Soumendu Mukherjee, Inspector General of Police (Economic Offences) Chetan Singh Rathod and Joint Commissioner of Police (Bangalore City Administration) Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain are its members.
As per the government order, the committee has been given a period of two months and has been instructed to comprehensively study various aspects related to the cadre and recruitment of the police department and submit a report with necessary recommendations.
“The government’s objective is to further strengthen the police department by scientifically assessing the human resource requirements, designing proper posts, providing effective recruitment systems, adequate training, and providing opportunities for professional growth of the personnel,” said Minister Priyank Kharge.
