Akshaya Patra Foundation has been serving cooked food and distributing essential groceries boxes for the migrant labourers and daily-wage earners who have lost their livelihood and in great despair in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent national lockdown.
Smt Sudha Murty and Narayan Murthy and their family have come forward to offer Rs 10 crores from their personal funds toward the Covid-19 relief work that Akshaya Patra is taking up. India is proud of socially responsible and compassionate With their donation, Akshaya Patra Foundation plans to distribute 1,33,000 (1.33 lakh) essential grocery boxes which will serve 55,86,000 meals. A typical grocery box will contain Sona Mossuri rice (5 kg), Thur dhal (1 kg), Refined oil (0.5 litre), sambar and rasam powder, vegetables of long shelf life like potatoes, etc. the full list is enclosed. The contents of the grocery box may vary according to the location of distribution in the country. The grocery boxes will be distributed in the following cities:
Bangalore: 40,000 boxes
Delhi: 40,000 boxes
Pune: 8000 boxes
Mathura District, UP: 20,000 boxes
Hyderabad: 10,000 boxes

Madhu Pandit Dasa, Chairman of Akshaya Patra Foundation said, “We have known the heart and mind of Narayan Murthy and Sudha Murty. They have worked all their lives for the welfare of our countrymen. This is yet another example of giving their personal money for the benefit of the vulnerable sections of the society who are facing difficult times now.”
Narayan Murthy and Smt Sudha Murty had supported the building of Akshaya Patra’s biggest kitchen in Hubli during 2005 from their personal funds. This kitchen in Hubli feeds about 1.5 lakhs children everyday even now. This kitchen was also featured as one of Mega Kitchens in India by the National Geographic TV channel.
