CSR Conclave for Education is being organised on 4th August 2023 at the J W Marriott, Bengaluru,VittalMallya Road under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the august presence of Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivkumar, M. B. Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education, Dr. G. Parameshwar, Minister for Home Affairs, Sharan Prakash Patil Minister for Skill Development, D. Sudhakar, Minister for Planning& Statistics and Dr. M. C. Sudhakar, Minister for Higher Education reflecting the state’s commitment towards advancing education and building a future devoid of poverty.
The central theme of the CSR conclave is ‘Stakeholder Collaboration and Social Impact.’Education is seen not merely as a process of knowledge transmission but as a potent tool for societal and economic development. Skill & education can bring us out of the poverty, on a sustainable manner.
Karnataka stands first in India Innovation Index among the Major States. In order to foster Innovation, Impart Digital literacy, Skilling at school and ensure that the future generation is sufficiently skilled to efficiently contribute to Karnataka’s economic growth all the stakeholders – Industry, Government, Citizens and NGOs need to work together.
While government is spending close to 13% of its Budget on education, Industry partnership through CSR is encouraged to add value for quality education. Out of Rs 7,466 crores of CSR in last five years, corporates have invested Rs 3667 crores for Education from 2021-22 as per Ministry of Corporate Affairs report.
AS per CSR Companies Act, it is mandated to spend 2% of annual average net profit on CSR.
The CSR Conclave Education is an appeal to Corporates under the ambit of CSR policy, Civil Society Organisations, and government departments to join hands and work collectively towards societal advancement. Each stakeholder, with their unique capabilities, play a significant role in our shared vision. The conclave is jointly organised by UNDP, UNICEF and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
The corporate sector, possessing significant resources and innovation capabilities, are encouraged to provide both financial support and creative solutions for this transformative journey. CSOs, leveraging their grassroots connectivity and a nuanced understanding of societal dynamics, are catalysts to ensure that these solutions are translated into impactful on-ground action. The government’s role in this collaborative endeavour is to create an enabling environment that promotes collaboration, provides the necessary regulatory frameworks, and ensures policy interventions that promote scalability and inclusivity in transformational initiatives.
The conclave is expected to be a springboard for collaborative action. It is an opportunity to share innovative ideas, forge new partnerships, and strategize effective implementation plans. We believe that together we can envision world class education infrastructure as per gold standards that is accessible to all, irrespective of socioeconomic status or geographical boundaries.
In this context, the Government of Karnataka, showcases Akanksha, an integrated CSR platform. designed to assist corporates in effectively fulfilling their CSR commitments, with complete transparency and traceability.CSR best practices would be presented as pivotal tools during the CSR conclave. These initiatives can act as catalysts for meaningful and sustainable change, driving progress in ways legacy methods may not. Corporations are encouraged to view CSR not merely as a statutory obligation but as an opportunity to join hands together and make a substantive impact on the education landscape of Karnataka.
Right to equality education is not just a constitutional mandate but a key driver of socio-economic transformation. A skilled and creative youth is the backbone of the States GDP – be it in agriculture, industry or service sector. The government of Karnataka has recently launched Yuva Nidhi scheme to help the unemployed graduates financially for 18 months, till they get absorbed in the job market. As per CMIE20% of our youth are unemployed. They need to be skilled and supported to find suitable careers. With this objective, a career guidance portal- Vrutti Darshi has been created in association with Skill department and UNICEF, to provide Online guidance to students of higher secondary schools. Almost 500 career options are mapped to suit every talent and market demand.
The VirttiDarshi Program is delivered through the Yuva Kanaja platform (https://yuvakanaja.in/en/yuva-kanaja-the-official-website/) which will act as an Integral Career Management platform and drive the guided career guidance efforts, skill building and entrepreneurship for youth. The conclave also looks at Corporates for investing in youth, by offering internship and apprenticeship to enrich their exposure to industry as a win-win option.
Bengaluru is known as the Silicon Vally of India, with a large presence of IT magnates. We want the students across Karnataka to get exposed to IT at an early stage. Digital libraries in all Gram Panchayats, Technology Aided Larning Programme (TALP) in all high schools, STEM LABS especially for girls can help produce an enriched workforce, which is so crucial for the industry to grow further.
Research & Development is the core of Transformation. Hence Incubation Centres in all government Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges are proposed by SELCO with 50% financial support. Government aims at making at least one school as a Model school in every Gram Panchayat & Hobli on the lines of existing taluka level KPS.
