Lokayukta Justice B.S. Patil directed the officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to ensure proper management of solid waste in a manner that does not lead to complaints from the public.
BBMP officials were questioned in their office today regarding the case after filing a suo motu complaint regarding garbage disposal, stray dog infestation, lake sanitation and other issues.
Regarding the management of stray dogs in the city, sterilization treatment is being provided to them. There are a total of more than two lakh seventy nine thousand stray dogs in the city, out of which more than thirty five thousand dogs have been sterilized.
The Lokayukta spoke after the concerned officials informed that a grant of Rs 60 crore has been received from the government for this and the program will be formulated in collaboration with the Karnataka Animal Welfare Board.
The judges said that these programs should be formulated not only at the urban area but also at the gram panchayat level. Public participation and communication are also important in this. They said that animals should be treated with tolerance and not cruelty.
BBMP and water board officials should work jointly to prevent lake pollution and solid waste from entering the lakes. He said that Jakkur Lake should be made a waste-free lake.
Speaking about garbage disposal, BBMP Finance and Garbage Disposal Special Commissioner K. Harish Kumar said that the BBMP is collecting green waste, dry waste and sanitary waste “house to house”.
Garbage generated in excess of 100 kg is considered as bulk garbage. Most people throw bulk garbage anywhere. This creates a problem in garbage disposal. 24 hours for garbage disposal management

Garbage disposal will now be given a new form. There are plans to implement technology and artificial intelligence-based methods. The money collected from the public for garbage disposal and property tax money will also be used for this.

Responding to this, the Lokayukta judges said that BBMP should meet the set target without any lapse in garbage disposal. It should be done in a way that does not receive any complaints from the public. Action should be taken against those who throw garbage carelessly.
