The booster dose set to be rolled out for eligible citizens from Jan 10 onwards may be extended to employers and employees in Industry, Trade & Services sector, irrespective of whether they come under the prescribed eligibility criteria of 60 years of age and having co-morbidities, said FKCCI in an appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The employers and workers in Industry, Trade & Services are all exposed to public places and interacting with different people on a daily basis and therefore should get the benefit of the booster dose, so as to prevent the possible spread of the Omicron variant of the corona virus,” said Dr I.S. Prasad, President, FKCCI and added that this is critical since a public place has all the potential of being a super-spreader event.
The Centre should consider representatives of Industry, Trade & Services equal to healthcare workers, as they help prevent an economic pandemic through their contribution to the country’s economy and a booster dose can let their businesses continue unhindered, thus preventing another devastating 3rd wave from Omicron, especially when the economy is poised for a rebound, the representation said.
FKCCI also welcomed the Centre’s decision to roll out the world’s first DNA vaccine, the nasal vaccine against COVID-19, and hailed the Prime Minister for his leadership in putting India in the frontline of the global war against COVID-19.
