Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka, inaugurated the Centre for Future Skills at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru today. The centre has been established in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Skill India, and Ethnotech Group to advance the mission of equipping youth with industry-relevant skills and future-ready competencies.Addressing the gathering, Governor Gehlot highlighted the transformative role of skill-based education in nation-building and said, “Skill education is a powerful tool for social and economic empowerment, especially for the rural, backward and underprivileged sections of society. With the right direction and training, our youth can become the backbone of a technologically advanced and economically strong India.”
He underlined the Government of India’s commitment to skill development through flagship initiatives such as “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, National Skill Development Mission, Skill India Mission, and National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme”, which are aimed at creating a globally competitive and job-ready workforce.”India is poised to become the ‘Skill Capital’ of the world, thanks to the focused efforts of both Central and State governments. Institutions like NSDC are playing a pivotal role in building a skilled workforce that meets global industry standards,” he said.
Speaking on the relevance of new-age sectors, the Governor noted the critical role of emerging technologies. “Fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Digital Marketing are reshaping the economy and unlocking vast opportunities for employment and innovation. It is essential that our educational institutions align with these advancements to stay ahead,” he added.
Praising KSOU for its dedication to accessible education, the Governor remarked, “The university’s motto, ‘Higher Education for All, Everywhere,’ reflects its commitment to inclusive learning. With an A+ grade from NAAC, KSOU has emerged as a national leader in open and distance learning, contributing significantly to human capital development.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Governor Gehlot shared a personal anecdote from his early career at Birla Company in Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing the value of hands-on experience in developing practical skills.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Pujya Sri Nirmalanandanath Swamiji, Sri Prakasanath Swamiji, KSOU Chancellor Sharanappa V. Halsey, IAS officer Nagaraj N.M., and other distinguished guests.
